Disabling the phpBB Forum

There are a variety of web forum software out there.   There may be times when you want to disable the forum for various reasons such as when performing a backup, during development, or upgrading to a new version.

Disabling the forum

One of the more popular one is the free open-source phpBB forum web application.  To disable the forum, log into the Administration Control Panel. Under the General  -> Board settings, change the Disable board setting to Yes. And save.

 

Now whenever users visits the forum, they will encounter a message like the following …

or any other message that you specify in the control panel.

As admin, you can log back into the Admin Panel and enable the board through the same setting.
