Disabling Windows Startup Sound

Do you know how when you boot up your laptop in the library and Windows makes a startup sound when it first starts up? And then everyone in the library looks at you for causing such noise.

Well, in this tutorial we will show you how to disable this Windows startup sound as well as it shutdown sound.

In Windows Windows Vista...
1. Click "Start -> Control Panel".
2. If you are in the "Classic View" of control panel, click "Control Panel Home".

3. Click "Hardware and Sound".

4. In the sounds category, click link "change system sound"

5. In the below dialog, uncheck "Play Windows Startup Sound". Select"Windows Logon" and then select "None" for the sounds.

6. Do the same for "Windows Logoff" and "Exit Windows".
7. Click OK to the dialog.

In Windows XP, it is similar...
1. Click "Start -> Control Panel".
2. If you are in the "Classic View" of control panel, click "Switch to Category View".
3. Click "Sound Speech Audio Device".
4. Click link "change sound scheme"
5. In the below dialog, select "Start Windows" and then select "None" for the sounds.
6. Do the same for "Exit Windows", "Windows Logon" and "Windows Logoff".
7. Click OK to the dialog.
