However, an open-source software that is flexible enough to be used as a general purpose content management system, or CMS. The software can be downloaded from WordPress.org (note the distinction between WordPress.com and WordPress.org). The software can be installed on any web host with MySQL database and PHP server-side scripting.

WordPress comes with a default template that known as Kubrick that is intended for blogging. WordPress is flexible template system in that it allows you to fully customize the templates. And you can extend its functionality by finding plugin or even writing your own. In that sense, you can customize a Wordpress site to the extent that it no longer look like a blog, but any general site with content management capabilities.
