Fitting a Square Image into a Rounded Rectangle

In a previous lesson of the Intro Fireworks course, we had added an image into a rectangle.

It fits nicely now. But what happens if our large rectangle has rounded corners.

How will we make our image fit?

You can download the Firework example file creativeworks.png here and follow along as we learn how.

Step 1: Zoom in tight and position it correctly first.

Step 2: We will be using the "Paste as Mask" technique. But we noticed in the below picture that are image already has a mask. And we know from earlier tutorial that a bitmap can not have more than one mask. As previous, we click Options and select Flatten Selection to rid ourselve of the mask.

Step 3: Select the rounded rectangle and copy it.

Step 4: Now select the bitmap image of the trees. And do Edit -> Paste as Mask.

We used the rounded rectangle as our mask. And when we apply that mask to our image, only the parts of the image that is within the shape of the rounded rectangle is shown. You can get the resulting file here.
