How to Get Horizontal Top Navigation Drop Down Menu in Joomla

Sometime you may want to have a Joomla site where the top navigation menu drops down to show its sub-menus when the user hovers over them. Joomla installation comes with a template called "Purity" by JoomlaArt.

As you can see, it has a drop down submenu of "What's New in 1.5" when you hover over the top navigation menu of "Joomla Overview".

So if you need to create a Joomla site with this drop down menu effect, you can start with the "Purity" template.

To set your Joomla installation to this template and turn on the drop down menus...

1. In your Joomla Administrator, go to "Extensions -> Template Manager" and select "JA_Purity" and click "Default". This sets your Joomla site to use this template.

2. In "Extensions -> Module Manager", click on the "Main Menu" module and set its position to "hornav" and set "Always show sub-menu Items" to "Yes". Then click "Save".

Refresh your browser and you should see Joomla site using the JA Purity template with drop down menus in effect.
