Other ways of promoting websites is to write articles and submit them to website. There are websites such as ArticleDashboard.com that lets you submit articles where you can have a credit box where you can mention yourself and your site. They in turn put your article on their site and allow other webmasters to copy and use your article for their site. In this way, your article can get distributed across the web with your credit box as well.

Then don't forget the old fashion word of mouth and by posting flyers. You can for example, print out the front page of your site and post them on public bulletin boards such as grocery store, university campuses, coffee houses, laundarymat, etc. Make sure that the URL is obvious from your flyer so that people who happen upon your flyer can go visit your site. And remember to ask for permission as needed and post only in legal locations.

You can also enter your site into various web awards and "Site of the Month" contests.

Paid Advertisment

That is about it for free website promotion. If you want to promote your site further, consider paid advertisment.
