Web Directories

Get your website listed in some quality web directories. There are some that requires payments, some that requires reciprocal linking, and some that are free. Make sure that they are not "spammy" or have excessive advertisment. I would look at directories that have high PR with lot of sites listed in it.

They serve two purposes...

1) People who are looking for site will go to the directories and either browse or search.

2) Search engines will find any new sites listed as it visits the directory.

Often, after submitting the site, you might have to wait awhile for your site to get approved and be listed. Most have human editors that you look at your site to see if it is suitable for inclusion.

Two very well known directories are the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory Project. They get very high traffic as evidenced by a Google PR of 9. They both have free submission without reciprocal linking. However, due to heavy submissions, they can not guarentee review of your site in a timely manner. Although Yahoo has a paid submission to speed up the process.

Some other web directoreis are listed here in WebmarksOnline.
